An excellent website has been developed for African Americans which provides a database / directory that lists grants and financial assistance programs in all 50 states and DC in the United States. As stated on the website, the web pages offer “details on programs that help blacks with finding help with groceries, utility bills, rent, college, medications, childcare, medical bills, housing, and more.” It is one of the most comprehensive directories I have seen and can be found at: https://helpforafricanamericans.org/.

The Overcomers – Individuals Overcoming Adversity
Every person’s story is a story of overcoming …
From infancy through adulthood, we are constantly overcoming, or attempting to overcome something. It could be the physical challenge of learning to walk as a child or an emotional fear such as speaking in front of a large group of people or any number of additional circumstances or situations. We are not always successful in our attempts to deal effectively with these challenges. But that does not negate the fact that we have overcome previous obstacles … however small or insignificant we feel they might be. To this extent we can say that we are all “overcomers” in our lives. The references that follow are representative of many individuals who have struggled with major obstacles and challenges in their lives and have found ways to not only survive, but in many cases to thrive, in the midst of adversity. Their stories are both instructional and inspirational. But we will NOT go so far as to say: “If they can do it, you can do it.” Everybody’s circumstances and situations are different. And we are all unique individuals with different needs, wants, and desires. But we must also realize that we are not alone and we can tap into the mental, emotional, and financial resources of other people as well as the power of spiritual resources which are available to us. These individuals certainly did.
